Most banana chips are fried and sugar-coated, which makes them an unhealthy treat — very different from fresh banana. Only plain, unsweetened dried banana is a reasonable occasional snack.
Keeper's noteRead the label or, better, dehydrate your own plain banana slices. Fresh banana is always the best option; reserve dried for travel or foraging.
What to watch out for with banana chips
Commercial banana chips are usually deep-fried and coated in sugar or honey, turning a healthy fruit into a fat-and-sugar snack. Plain, air-dried or dehydrated banana with nothing added is fine in small amounts, but the typical crunchy store 'banana chip' isn't.
