Plain acai is safe and antioxidant-rich, but only unsweetened acai — the popular acai bowls and frozen packs are usually loaded with added sugar.
Keeper's noteRead labels carefully — 'acai' on a menu usually means sugar. A dab of unsweetened acai puree or a little powder over chop is the safe form.
Why acai is good for parrots
Acai berries themselves are non-toxic and famous for their antioxidant content. The catch is almost entirely commercial: nearly every acai product (purees, sorbets, bowls) is sweetened, sometimes heavily. Plain, unsweetened acai pulp or powder in tiny amounts is fine; the sugary versions are not.
How to serve it
Unsweetened acai pulp or powder only, in small amounts.
Never sweetened acai bowls, sorbets, or packs.
A little powder mixed into chop is an easy way to use it.
